Q: What is the purpose of Grade Schemes?
A: Grade Schemes are used to define the grades and marks that can be used in all of the school's assessment situations. They act as a validation when teachers are making assessments and are used to restrict the range of values that a teacher can enter.
Q: What kinds of Grades can I define?
A: You can define any set of grades you need. This can include standard grade ranges such as GCSE grades and National Curriculum grades, but can also include such grade as 'Excellent', 'Very Good', 'Good', 'Satisfactory'.... You can also define Range and Text grades. Range grades would be used for values that have a start and end point, such as 0 to 100. Text grades can be defined where short pieces of text are required as a grade.
Q: Can I create as many Grade Schemes as I Like?
A: Yes, There is no limit to the number of Grade Schemes that you can create?
Q: If I Activate a Grade Scheme can I Deactivate it and delete it?
A: Yes, if it hasn't been used as part of student assessments. However, once a Grade Scheme has been used as part of a student's assessment then deleting a Grade Scheme could result in unstable data. Our advice is to make sure the Grade Scheme is properly defined before activating it.
If you try to deactivate a Grade Scheme that is in use, you will receive a message saying that it can't be deactivated. If the Grade Scheme has not been used you will be able to deactivate it and delete it.
Q: Can I Deactivate an unused Scheme?
A: Yes. To do this Right-click on the Grade Scheme that you want to deactivate and select the Deactivate option. You will also be able to delete it once it has been deactivated.
Q: Can I add grades to a Grade Scheme?
A: Grades can be added to a Grade Scheme whilst the Grade Scheme is being defined. Grades that are added can be re-ordered in the list of grades. The order of the complete grade list can be reversed as well. Once the Grade Scheme has been activated and used as part of student assessments, it cannot be deleted.
